Wonderfully researched, nuanced and written! If I hadn't just had dinner; it surely would have made me hungry and wanting to sample from the world menu's suggested. Having learned many a recipe from various mama's homemade kitchens; If someone offers to show how their family makes any meal; don't hesitate jump in and learn!
Thank you for the lovely words. I have been so many places, and I tell you, I have sampled some things that made me want to move there, pretty much just stay... and others... well, not so much. But all good times! I tried to take something beautiful from them all. I fell in love with Fish Sauce in the Philippines, and still have it on the shelf. Use with caution and it's mighty!
Well, I am trying actually to reduce the length a bit, I get on a tear! But, thank you! I hope that you find that always to be so. I have a ton of stories that want to get out there!
your column was good, long and thought provoking for me, especially in light of the last few days' news cycles. glad for the show of strength from the protests, knocked back by the uptick in violence here and abroad. there are times when i crawl into my Self far enough that i am glad other people are wordsmith-enough for me to say "yeah- that" and thank you for churning out words like others churn butter- i really do appreciate your columns!
Jonathan, thank you so much for yesterday, for holding space for me and for the beautiful reminder of matter and energy.
Time spent with the Impressiva group is special to me. Big thanks.
I've enjoyed the Intentional Table, and the last article brought back memories of my childhood. My family (unit of 6) travelled for many years (India, France, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Trinidad) as dad worked for Foreign Affairs. I'm now in Canada, where we're all from (in as much as it relates to physical birthing anyway! 😄)
I hadn't really thought about how food contributed to our/my experience of the world.
Geography and the cultural aspects you describe are right on.
I used to be an adventurous cook some decades ago. I still love food, but for various reasons have 'lost' that passion and the habits required to sustain it. Thank you for inspiring me to take care of this essential part of life.
In short, I could have just written a BIG thank you for being you. 😂

Yes, a little fish sauce; even if it is from the Philippines; goes a long, long way lol. Blessings on your garden and kitchen!!
Jonathan, these articles just get better! How prescient and nuanced. You give us “food for thought.”

what Myra said....
Madeline, you surprise me
lol.... do I dare ask why, or better- or worse, how? Myra's comment was great!
You usually have more to say. No worries!

Great article. 💕
I appreciate that. What was it that caught your eye, if you don't mind?
